How it works

The innovative and most important part of Memocom is the software. This is what this initiative is about. However, software needs hardware to function and we want to use existing hardware as well as design some very inexpensive open source hardware alternatives that are most suitable for Memocom in order to create a real hassle free user experience.

 

Every Memocom user has at least one, but often multiple computers on which the Memocom software is installed and the data is stored. That may be computers but also a phone, a small box for in a closet, a bracelet, a ring or a watch. Existing  devices like PC, Mac, iPhone, Tablet etc. but also low cost devices specially designed for Memocom, which consist only of a small computer (eg Arduino) and a data storage medium (eg USB stick).

We call this a Memocom device.

Each Memocom device is connected to the Internet, and communicates with other Memocom devices. Thus, information is exchanged and shared. Because all is communicated peer to peer there are no servers.

All Memocom devices of the same user automatically exchange data with each other if they are on-line. If you have a lot of data, for example, many photos, then obviously a larger Memocom device is needed. And for the safety than preferably two or three at different places. If necessary you could also use a secure cloud storage. The smaller Memocom devices still synchronize automatically with the most important information and last used prioritized to find a place which makes it easily accesible.

The Memocom software consists of a clever combination of existing open source components for storage, exchange and presentation of data. There is a minimum number of settings so that everyone can use it and a dashboard that shows which of your devices are on-line, their capacity and how full they are. An important element is the encryption. A heavy encryption is used both for storage and exchange, so no-one can access your data unauthorized. In order to obtain access there are various ways that depend on the Memocom device used and which range from strongly secured to "uncrackable."

 

Initially we facilitate the storage and easy sharing of short notes, long notes, photos, and files where we thus provide the basic functionality of Note, Evernote, E-Mail, SMS, WhatsApp, Twitter, Dropbox and Facebook in a really safe way. This will then be extended and continue to develop. Because we work with open standards and all is licensed for free to everyone, we grow a vibrant community that will provide links to existing systems using our API's.

 

We expect the first alfa release soon and we will come up with a concrete plan on the steps and timeline.
